Manipal, July 11, 2013 : Yogish, the main accused in the case of the gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University who had attempted suicide before he could be arrested, has completely recovered and is discharged from hospital this morning and formally arrested by the Police.
He is expected to be produced in court at around 3 pm today.
Yogish had attempted suicide on June 27 in a dramatic manner, after calling IGP Pratap Reddy and confessing his crime. The police rushed to his rescue and got him admitted in hospital. He was in critical condition & was on ventillator for the first few days.
It may be recalled that the 4th Year Medical student of Manipal University hailing from Kerala was allegedly abducted in an auto rickshaw and gang-raped by three men on the night of June 20. After a week of intense search, the police nabbed Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand on June 27 in a dramatic turn of events, with Anand too attempting suicide. Anand and Hariprasad have been sent to Shimoga jail till July 15. Brothers of Yogish and Hariprasad too have been arrested for destroying evidence. The victim was discharged from hospital last week.
