Kasargod, Jul 7: The incident of a youth being stabbed to death on outskirts of city fueled tension in the coastal district.
T A Sabith (18), son of Badruddin from Surlu Meepuguri and an employee of Benzar clothe store is the deceased.
It is said that on Sunday, Sabith had been to Meepuguri maidan along with his friends when two miscreants on bike chased him and stabbed him.
Sabith who was seriously injured was rushed to a private hospital in the city where he succumbed to injuries.
News of Sabith’s death fuelled tension in the region and within no time violent groups were seen pelting stones at buses and cars in and around Nullippadi.
The cops who arrived at the spot had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the groups.
The dispersed angry groups moved to new bus stand from Nullippady and barged into shops there are destroyed commodities randomly. Most of the shops remained closed thereafter. Buses and other vehicles too remained off road. Security was beefed up in the city to avert episodes of violence. A driver driving Kasargod-Kannur bus was injured.
Since several months Kasargod city had not witnessed any tension. Now, the city is experience obnoxious episode of unrest bringing Kasargod back to the days of fear, anxiety, uncertainty and suspicion.
