Mangaluru, September 10: A youth expired and another suffered injuries in a collision between truck and a motor bike which took place on the late night of Tuesday September 8th near Kotekar Beeri situated on the outskirts of the city.
Deceased is Muhammed Zakaria (23), resident near Talapady check post.
Pillion rider, Shiyab (22), from K C Nagar in Talapady was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
The accident took place when Muhammed Zakaria was returning home on his motor bike along with his friend, Shiyab, who was the riding pillion on Tuesday late night. The bike hit a stationary truck near Beeri.
Zakaria, died instantly on spot while his friend Shiyab suffered severe injuries and was admitted to the hospital.
It is gathered that Zakaria, was employed in Dubai earlier and was now preparing to leave for the Gulf on September 18th.
He is survived by parents, a sister and five brothers.
Ullal police have registered a case.
Following this, Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike activists protested in front of the commercial tax office here. The protesters claimed that as many truck drivers park their vehicles on the highway to visit the check post for document verification which causes unnecessary problems for vehicles moving on the highway, and also paves way accidents. They pointed out that in the past, although several protests were held for the same reason, no measures have been taken yet by the concerned officials.
The officials of the commercial tax department visited the protesters, held discussions with Ullal police and leaders of the Vedike. They assured to take adequate safety measures on the highway post which the protest ended.
Hasinar K C Road, Ahmed Peribail, Ravi Shetty, and others were present during the protest.
