Kundapur, June 17: A teenage girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances near her home at Hennaberu in Ottinene near Byndoor here on Wednesday late evening, June 17th.
Akshata Devadiga (17), is the deceased. She was the daughter of Babu and Radha Devadiga.
Akshata was a first year PU student studying in the science stream of a junior college at Byndoor. She had secured 93% marks in the SSLC examinations of the last academic year and had received many felicitations.
Daily, Akshata used to walk to college. She had to pass through an acacia plantation to reach home from college.
It is learnt that on Wednesday, as usual, she left from college at 4.30 pm, but did not reach home. Her family members who were waiting for her arrival, grew anxious and phoned the college to check, they learnt that she had left at the usual time.
Meanwhile, family of Akshata began to search her and by late evening, her body was found among the bushes in acacia plantation. Her uniform shawl was found to be wrapped around her neck arousing suspicions of strangulation, said police sources.
It is gathered that a relative of Akshata had seen Akshata while she was returning home from the college. He had also noticed that a youth was also moving on the same road some distance ahead of Akshata. This information has been conveyed to the police and investigations are going on.
Prima facie, it appears like a murder case. The reason behind this murder is not yet known.
Udupi SP Annamalai, Kundapur DySP Manjunatha Shetty visited the spot along with other police personnel. Fingerprint experts and canine squad also brought to the spot.
The body has been sent to Manipal hospital for autopsy.
A case has been registered by Byndoor police.
