Surfing demo by International trainer in Panambur Beach, Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 31: In case the proposed Surf life India is initiated similar to the Australia’s Surf life saving model, then India may get a chance to participate in the international surfing championship held in 2016, said chief executive officer of Panambur Beach Development and Tourism project – Yatish Baikampady.

Although surfing competition was scheduled at Panambur beach on May 29th, it has been postponed due to the elections. A demo on surfing by the international surfing trainer was organized on Saturday, May 30th at Panambur beach here.

Speaking to the media representatives on this occasion Yatish said, there are chances that the surf life saving to get initiated at Mangaluru. Through this, life saving activities in the coasts of India will be encouraged.  The surf life saving India works under the association of Surfing Federation of India (SFI).

Jamo Borthwick, chief trainer among the International trainers from the International Surfing Association gave a demo regarding the surfing at the Panambur beach here.

He spoke about the chances of modern training through Surf life saving India, opportunities for new dimensions in Life saving and rescue services and also provide an opportunity for surfing sport, he hoped.

Life savers are mainly needed. They are trained and possess knowledge on the depth of sea and the water waves. Surf life Saving India will through a light on this matter. There are plans on organizing life saving camps across the coastal areas, informed the vice president of SFI – Rammohan Parampaje.

It is sad that surfing is postponed. But the participants are still enthusiastic as it is postponed, he said.
