Mangalore, June 17: Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development has presided over the Developmental progress review meeting held at MUDA office on June 17, Monday. Addressing the meeting, Sorake directed officials to work with greater dedication and ensure cleanliness in the city.
JR Lobo MLA from Mangalore south constituency in his address alleged MUDA officials for granting permissions erratically to some extension works without studying the implications. People with such permits have either diverted the flow of rain water to other direction or to allow water for transgression on the public roads, he alleged.
He further said that MUDA has got the right to issue permits but due to indiscriminate issue of permits without examining the nature of the works, in some places, it is observed that people who carry such works have either diverted the flow of rain water to some other places or allow water to enter on the road and thereby making a provision for water to enter into the houses of people during monsoon resulting too much of inconveniences to the people living inside the houses. He also pulled up MUDA officers for not visiting the places of work once the permission has been accorded.
Highlighting the problems faced by common man due to apathy of MUDA authorities, he said the indiscriminate issuing of permits has led to hardships to many people who face problems due to gushing in of rain water into their houses during monsoons. He also blamed the MUDA officials for failing to visit any site once permission is granted.
Also he directed the officials to take strict action on private club owner s of Jeppinamogaru for their illegal encroachment. Sorake, after listening everything directed the officials to take stringent action on violators.
