Citizens concerned over the scorching heat in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 26: Despite of death of hundreds in Andra Pradesh and Telangana due to the heat waves, the scorching heat has also affected the citizens at Mangaluru too.

People cannot walk out in the day due to the intense hotness of the sun. The publics say that “due to the scorching heat, we experience a burning sensation. If we move out of the house on any work, we will be eager to return home at the earliest”.

Since a past few days, the temperature across Dakshina Kannada District is rising especially in Manglauru City. Meanwhile the public’s opine that the reason for temperature rise is due to the drop in groundwater level.

Today Mangaluru has recorded a temperature of 35.4 degree Celsius.

On Sunday, May 24th; 34.20 degree temperature was recorded. This is less when compared with the temperature of last year. Last year during the same time, 37 to 38 degree temperature was recorded.

According to the officials of Meteorological Department, the temperature recorded in Mangaluru is not the maximum. Humidity difference in the city is the cause for temperature rise, they said.

“Generally weather will be hot in the months of March, April and May. The 35 degree temperature recorded in Mangalore is common. As there is a variation in humidity, people sense as though there is a rise in temperature. In reality, if the earth gets heated up, only then all the natural activities including the rainfall will get fastened up” says Sunder Methri, State Director of Meteorological Department, Bengaluru.

In the state, many districts across northern part of Karnataka such as Raichur, Bijapur, Ballary, Bagalkot, etc usually record high temperature. Among these, Raichur and Ballary record a highest temperature.

Growth in industrialisation is adding to rise in pollution in Mangaluru. As an impact the temperature has raised. This may also affect the ozone layer, express the experts; informed the officials of Meteorological Department.

Adverse effect on health:

As the temperature rises, due to sweating, much water is lost from the body.  This may cause adverse effects on health. In such situations, to keep ourselves healthy we have to consume food which possess lot of water contents, advised a Doctor.
