House burgled at Bajal, thieves fled with 75 sovereigns of gold

Mangaluru, May 22: theft has been reported to have taken place at house in Kudthadka, Bajal here on the evening of Thursday May 21st.

Thieves fled with 75 sovereigns of gold jewellery approximately worth Rs 15 lakhs.

The house belongs to Harishchandra Bekal (50) who stays abroad while his wife Jyoti and his young son live here.

It is learnt that Jyoti and her son had been to their native place in Bekal, Kasargod last Saturday. The theft came to light only after their return on Thursday evening.

It is learnt that the thieves gained entry to the house by breaking open the side door of the house.

Sources said, Jyoti, thinking it was unsafe to keep the gold jewellery in the cupboard, had kept them in a small plastic tub and placed the tub under her bed. The thieves who ransacked the cupboard, found nothing, and looked around. They saw the tub containing the ornaments, and decamped with them.

ACP Kalyan Shetty, circle inspector Pramod and other police personnel arrived at the spot and investigated.

A case has been registered with Mangaluru rural police.
