Invitation released for 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship

Mangaluru, April 23: Invitation card of the 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship scheduled to be held from 30th April at Mangala Stadium was released by Minister for youth services and sports K Abhayachandra Jain on Wednesday April 22nd.

Minister Jain speaking to media persons after the inauguration said we are happy to organize the 19th Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championship in Mangaluru. Karnataka Amateur Athletic Association, Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association and the district administration is jointly organizing the 19th Federation Cup.

This event is important as national athletes will get a chance to qualify for the 21st Asian Athletics Championships 2015 scheduled to be held in June at Wuhan, China.

All the facilities that are necessary for the event are already arranged with the full cooperation of the district administration, MUDA, the MCC and the food committee. Both during day and night the event will be organized. He Floodlights worth Rs 22 lakhs are being installed temporarily, he said.

Proposal to extend the galleries is already submitted to the CM. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will conduct drug tests here. The police are prepared to provide all the security arrangements for the event, he added.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be arriving for the inaugural programme.

Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille J Sumariwalla, Karnataka Athletics Association president, state Congress president G Parameshwar and Bollyhood actor Suniel Shetty, will arrive to the event along with other chief guests. Aafreen Rachel Vaz, the first runner-up at the FBB Femina Miss India- 2015 will be present at the closing prize distribution ceremony, he informed.

He also said that already Rs 20 lakhs have been provided to all the three stadiums of Dakshina Kannada to lay turf.

Manjunath Bhandary, president of Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association (DKAA) said, 48 events will be conducted in total. 75% of the sports materials has been received from the sports association, and the rest will be received before April 26th. New sports materials worth Rs 60 lakhs are purchased for the event, he said.

We are expecting around 700 athletes and 200 officials from all over India. At least 350 rooms have been booked. We are planning a grand opening ceremony with the help of Dr Mohan Alva. We are hopeful that the event will be successful, he said.

Renowned former Indian athlete P T Usha, Police Commissioner S Murugan, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mayor Jacinta Alfred and others were present on this occasion.
