Mangalore, June 4: It has been reported that the Dakshina Kannada district co-operative milk producer’s union Limited has observed milk day at Kulashekar on June 4, Tuesday.The programme was inaugurated by Dr O R Srirangappa by lighting the lamp.
District health officer Dr O R Srirangappa in his chief guest’s speech said that milk will provide enough quantity of calcium to the human body, which is important for the growth of human being and helps to fight calcium deficiency. He advised the farmers to vaccinate the cattles without fail as this would prevent harmful bacteria from entering human bodies upon consumption of milk.
Health officer also informed farmers that while supplying milk to union an adequate care to taken as far as cleanliness is concerned and instructed them to prevent using water which was kept open and thereby allowing mosquitoes to breed.
Raviraj Hegde,president of the union said in his presidential address that India which was in 16th place as far as milk production is concerned has now moved to the first place and has recorded 17% growth in the supply of milk from India.
Milk producer’s co-operative union is collecting milk from 47,000 farmers of 648 unions and supplying to two lakh customers around 3,303,000 litres of milk.
He also said that apart from vaccinating all milching cows, cattles were also being treated by sixteen veterinary doctors. The union also pasteurizes the milk before being supplied to the consumers for use, he said.
All the cows have been worshiped by offering special poojas and school children who were part of the programme have been awarded with gifts.
The dealers and distributors who have shown remarkable growth in the supply and distribution of Nandi milk have been honored and felicitated on this occasion.
