Mangaluru, March 13: Demanding justice to Advocate Nabi Ahmed, who was shot dead by a police in front of the Allahabad Court, a protest was staged by the members of Mangaluru Bar Association in front of the District Court here on March 13th, Friday.
Addressing the protesters, S P Chengappa, Chairman of Bar Association, Mangaluru damned the act of the cops and said giving a call to all that the atrocities taking place on innocents must be opposed by everyone.
The government of Uttarpradesh has announced a compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh to the family of deceased advocate which has to be increased to Rs One crore as the advocates do not have insurance and PAF benefits. Even the medical expense of the injured Advocate Chandan has to be borne by the government. The central government has to intervene in this matter, he said.
He also demanded that the police Shailendra Singh who opened fire be arrested immediately.
In case, Police Shailendra Singh, who had opened fire is not arrested within 24 hours, protest will be staged by boycotting the court proceedings from Monday, warned Chengappa.
The vice-president of Mangaluru bar association Yashodara Karkera, Chief Secretary Raghavendra H V, Treasurer Yathish, Joint Secretary Suma Sahran were present along with other members during the protest.
