Mangaluru, Mar 10: In connection with the incident of stone-pelting on St Joseph Vaz prayer centre at Panir, the cops have arrested a man.
The arrested has been identified as Ananda (30), a resident of Ukkuda, Kinya.
Police commissioner S Murugan, addressed a press meet at his office on Tuesday March 10th and said based on reliable information, Ananda was taken into custody. After thorough investigation, he revealed that he was previously employed in the same church and had quit the job around two weeks ago desiring for better salary.
After consuming alcohol at the graveyard adjacent to the prayer hall on February 24th, he had hurled stone at the idol out of rage for the low salary he was paid at the church.
Ananda was arrested on Monday March 9th and detained under judicial custody on March 10th.
AS per the instructions of police commissioner, the investigation of the case was taken up ACP south. A special team was formed led by Ullal SI Savithru Tej, comprising SI Bharati, SI Ranjendra B and staff.
The team has been suitably rewarded for the successful cracking down of the case.
S Murugan also said that the CCTV cameras installed at religious centres are generally of poor quality which makes it difficult for the cops to identify and nab the culprit.
The cops have already installed 20 CCTV cameras at different points in the city. For the installation of CCTV cameras under MCC limits, Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned and these high resolution cameras will be of good quality. The proposal is at its final stage, will be implemented in near future, said S Murugan.
