Ten years ago we would not even have imagined that this kind of surgery could be performed in India. Now the expertise and infrastructure is available in Mangaluru and a few other centers in India namely Mumbai, Bangaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad.

Instead of removing the arm, we save it and also the life of the child. The only necessity is that the patient should consult the doctor at an early stage, so that both limb and life can be saved, he said.

Team of doctors who helped Dr Jalaluddin Akbar to perform this complex and rare surgery are Dr Mahendra Ullal, Dr Suresh, Dr Imthiaz, and Dr Dinesh Kadam.

In the press meet, Ajmal M Habeeb, managing director, Unity Care and Health Sciences and Dr Imthaz- Orthopaedic Surgeon and were present.
