Mangaluru, February 28: The issue of minimum auto fare has finally been fixed at Rs 23, in accordance with the demand of the auto drivers.
The new fares will come into effect from Sunday March 1st as per an order issued by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). Also, Rs 13 (maximum three passengers) will be charged per kilometre after the first 1.5 kilometre. Waiting charge – first 15 minutes free, and 25 percent of the metre charge for next 45 minutes of waiting. Luggage charge – 20 kg free, and Rs 2 for every extra kg or part.
Auto fares in night – Auto drivers can demand 1.5 times the above charges between 10 pm and 5 am.
All auto drivers are directed to display the revised charges along with the driver’s permit attached with photograph and mobile phone number, on their vehicles behind the driver’s seat. The RTA has ordered all auto drivers to install digital meters compulsorily, informed A B Ibrahim, the chairman of RTA.
