Mangaluru, February 21: ‘NITTE Mangaluru Half Marathon and 10K run’ will be held on February 22nd, at Mangala Stadium in the city, organized under the joint collaboration of Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association and NITTE university; informed Manjunath Bhandary- the president of D K Athletics association and President of Sahyadri Educational Institutions.
Speaking at a press meet organized in the city on Friday, he said, marathon will be organized under various sectors, and 14,650 candidates have already registered their names. This has been organized with a view of drawing the youth towards the sports, and a total sum of Rs 5,71,000 will be given as prizes.
It is expected that nearly 20,000 members will participate in the marathon and over thousands are expected to register their names on the day of event.
The marathon is scheduled from 6 am to 9.30 am. The brand ambassadors for the event are Sunil Kumar Shetty and Ashwini Nachappa.
Dr G Parameshwar, President- KAA Bengaluru, minister B Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, U T Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, ADGP Amar Kumar Pandey, Adil Sumarivaala-President Athletic Federation of India, minister J R Lobo, Miodeen Bava, MLA Cap. Ganesh Karnik, MLC Ivon D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner- A B Ibrahim, IGP Amrith Paul, Police Commissioner S Murugan, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddeneni, MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapathi will participate in the program, informed Manjunath.
Half-marathon (21 km) and 10 K Run (10 km) will be organized in open zone for age group between 16 to 45 years and senior section for age group over 46 years. Both consists of women’s and men’s group.
Race will be conducted for college students 5kms, High School boys 5Kms, High School girl’s 3Kms, Primary School boys 3Kms, and girls 2Kms. ‘Nama Balipuga’ will take place in open and competitive zones informed Manjunath Bhandary.
