Mangaluru, February 11: National Disaster Reduction Day was organized in the city, under the collaboration of the District Fire Service Department and the District Home Guards at the SP Office Grounds on Wednesday, February 11th.
In the beginning, a rally was flagged off by Fr Valerian D’Souza, Parish Priest of Milagres Church; from the Church premises to the program venue.
Dr Murali Mohan Chuntar, District Commandant of Home Guards, presided over the ceremony.
City Police commissioner S Murugan addressing the audience on the occasion said, disasters can be minimized when the public actively participate and co-operate with the Police, Fire Service Departments and Home Guards.
He expressed that, much awareness is necessary in this regard and pointed out that students can play a major role in this regard.
HS Varadaraj, Chief Fire Officer spoke on the methods to handle disasters at home, work place and on roads.
A mock drill was also showcased by the Fire Service Department during the program.
Additional DC Srinivas Prabhu , Mohammed Ismail – second incommand of the Home Guards’, and others were present on this occasion.
