Kundapur, January 12: A tragic incident occurred in which a fourth standard boy who after leaving his home to play with his friend went missing at Kota near here, on Saturday, January 10th was found dead in a well.
The deceased boy is Sughosh Adiga (9). The cops recovered his body from a well at BannadiUpladi area with the help of local residents and fire personnel and sent it for autopsy.
The dead body was recovered after, a 15yearold suspect, with whom the victim had gone to play on Saturday, was taken into custody by the police on Monday morning.
It is gathered that Sughosh had left his home in his bicycle on Saturday afternoon after the minor boy from the neighbouring house invited him to play. Sughosh did not return home until 6pm in the evening. The family members grew suspicious after his bicycle was found abandoned near the house.
Police sources said Sughosh and 15yearold neighbour had some snacks at the latter’s house and both began conversing. Meanwhile, fight erupted between the two over petty issues at around 3 p.m during which, the younger one accidentally fell un-conscious. Panicked over the incident, the neighbour suspected that sughosh might have died and threw his body into a well and returned home without informing anyone.
But when the family members of Adiga asked the neighbour he had reportedly told them that Sughosh had left home soon after having the snacks.
Adiga’s father had expired due to cardiac arrest about three months ago, his mom is under shock after seeing her son’s dead body. Adiga’s elder brother, who is pursuing I PUC at a nearby college, now has to take care of his ailing mom.
The accused, who was picked up by the police for questioning on Monday morning, revealed the truth. Based on the information given by the boy, the cops searched for the dead body in the well and found it, sources said.
The local residents enraged over the incident had pelted stones at the house where the minor accused stays along with his uncle.
Udupi SP Annamalai, visited the spot and investigated the case. He urged the people not to take law into their hands and said the department will book the culprits under law. He also revealed that investigations are on.
Case has been registered at Kota police station. Police has been deployed at the crime spot and also near Sughosh’s house.
