Suspected terrorist arrested at Mangaluru- Operation carried by Bengaluru and Mangaluru CCB cops.

Mangaluru, January 12: A suspected terrorist has been arrested by Bengaluru crime branch cops in relation to the blasts that occurred at Hyderabad, Chennai and other places in the country.

The man is identified as Riyaz Ahmed Sayyed (28), a resident of Makhdoom Colony, Bhatkal was arrested from Mangalore International Airport at around 11.30 pm on Saturday January 10th. Sayyed was about to board the Jet Airways flight to Dubai when he was detained by the Bengaluru cops.

Sources said that Sayyed has been arrested in connection to the recent blast at Church Street in Bengaluru, but police sources did not confirm this information.

The Bengaluru cops on January 8th, had arrested Sayyed Ismail Afaq (34), Abdus Subur (23) and Saddam Hussain (35) and claimed to have seized a large cache of explosives. The parents of the accused and the locals, however have been claiming that they are innocent.

As per police sources, it is suspected that Sayyed had a hand in terror attacks in different parts of the country. During investigations, the three accused arrested earlier on January 8th, who were suspected to be involved in terror attacks had revealed that Sayyed will be flying to Dubai and hence the cops had undertaken this operation with the aid of Mangaluru CCB cops, said the police sources.

Riyaz Ahmed Sayyed has been taken to Bengaluru for further investigation, said the sources. Mangaluru CCCB cops have undertaken investigations using the CC camera footages to trace how and with whom Sayyed had arrived to Mangalore International Airport from Bhatkal, informed the Mangaluru police sources.

However, Bengaluru police commissioner M N Reddi said that the investigations are in preliminary state, hence they are unable to provide more information about his terrorist activities.

Meanwhile, during probing; the recently arrested suspected terrorists have confessed their roles in the recent bomb blasts which had taken place at Hyderabad, Chennai, and Uttarpradesh. During investigation, it has also come to light that Ismail Afak used to pay frequent visits to Pakisthan, it is learnt.

It has come to light that the suspected terrorists who had links with IM Association, had aimed to conduct bomb attacks in main cities of the country along with the city, and the arrest of these have avoided a great mishap, he said.

He also revealed that the materials seized from the arrested such as detonator, timer and other materials used to prepare bombs have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory and is expecting for the reports.
