Reduced Auto fares will be effective from January 12th on-wards – DC A B Ibrahim.

Mangaluru , January 10 : Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has brought down the minimum auto fare to Rs 20 and Rs 13 fare per km thereafter regardless of stiff opposition from the autorickshaw associations.

The current minimum fare is Rs 25 and per km fare is Rs 14.

From January 12th onwards the revised fare will be effective, said A B Ibrahim, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner as well as RTA Chairman during a RTA meeting held here on Friday, January 9th.

DC A B Ibrahim said, fares were reduced following reduction in the fuel prices. Hence, the fares have been brought back to the 2012 levels.

President of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike Hanumath Kamath said, the argument placed forward by autorickshaw associations was not just as mainly the middle class people opt for autorickshaws they ought to reduce the fare considering the welfare of all.

Member of autorickshaw association Vishnumurthy urged the RTA to grant some time pointing out the recalibration cost of the meters which would be Rs 500 whenever fare was revised.

Dc Ibrahim in response said, recalibration of meters would be done at subsidized cost in special camps which would be conducted by Regional Transport Office.

Sridhar Nayak, in­-charge RTO was present among others during the meet.
