Mangalore, January 10: Mangalore City Corporation will extend its full support and encouragement to the college level sports activities of Mangalore University, which are organized in the areas falling under the Corporation limits, said Mayor Mahabala Marla.
He was speaking during the valedictory function on Friday, January 9th; after disbursing the prizes to the winning teams in the three day Mangalore University Level Men’s Kabbaddi tournament -2014-2015 organised under the joint association of Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangaluru and senior student’s association and Mangalore University.
Mayor lauded Shree Gokarnanatha College for supporting and encouraging sports activities and wished well for the future endeavours. He said, every-one gets a chance to participate in such competitions. But very few make the best use of the opportunity and achieve the best. This kind of sports activities ought to be encouraged and continued in future too, expressed Mayor Mahabala Maarla.
Dr Gangadhar B, Principal, Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, presided over the ceremony.
S Jayavikram, convener of Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, Naveen Chandra, president, old students association, Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, Anand K – Vice-president MMNL, Radhakrishna, member of MCC and other guests were present.
Dr B G Suvarna, administrative board member of the College, B P Harish Kumar, Sandeep Rao and others were present.
Purushotham Poojary B, Physical Education Director at Shree Gokarnanatheshwara College, welcomed the gathering. Praveen Belthangady mastered the ceremony. Associate Professor Dr | Ummappa Poojary thanked.
Alva’s College First:
In the final round, match the first place was bagged by Alva’s College-Moodbidre, J.F.G.C Thenkanadiyur won the second place, and Third place was won by S.D.M College, Ujire. The host team- Gokarnanatheshwara College marked the fourth place.
40 teams:
In the Kabaddi tournament which was held for three days; about 40 teams from Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Somwarpet, Thenkanadiyuru, Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, Moodbidri, Puttur, Sullia, Belthangady, Ujire, Mangalore and surrounding colleges, participated in the tournament.
