Mangaluru, December 30: A MCC meet was convened on Monday December 29th, during which the topic of appointment of the commissioner to MCC was raised.

In order to allow a free flow of traffic, it has been decided to widen a twolane bridge close to the Mahaveera Circle. The bridge widening work is estimated to cost Rs one crore.

MCC Superintendent Engineer and Deputy Commissioner (Development) B.T.Kantharaj has informed that special grant of Rs 100 crore from the Chief Minister would be utilized for the project.

But BJP corporator Premananda Shetty opposed to this decision to use the special grants for the bridge widening and said, the grant was meant for the new bus terminus at Pumpwell.

In reply, Kantharaj revealed that if this grant is not utilized in the current financial year, this grant would lapse.

The opposition party BJP members who had opposed during the previous meet over the non appointment of commissioner at the MCC raised the same issue even in this meet and said they would continue to protest until the new commissioner is appointed at the MCC.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla speaking on this occasion said, the post of City Corporation Commissioner may be filled in January.

On this occasion, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Deputy Mayor Kavitha, city project and development committee member Ashok Kumar D K and others were present.
