Mangalore/Udupi, May 20: Sorake’s first priority is to develop Mangalore city
Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake was given a rousing welcome at the Mangalore airport, during his maiden visit to the district after becoming minister on Monday.
Speaking to mediapersons, Sorake said that his first priority was to develop Mangalore as a second largest city in the State. The government has planned to provide drinking water, good roads, drainage system to the city using available funds from Asian Development Bank.
“With the support of the Union government, we will prepare a blue print for the overall development of Mangalore. I will convene an official meeting to discuss on the development of ULBs on May 22. A separate meeting will be held in Mangalore to discuss on development.”
To a query on illegal constructions in the city, Sorake said that he does not have much details on the same.
Title deeds will be distributed among the poor who have been residing on government land. “Poor wil not be evicted from the government land,” he added.
Later speaking to mediapersons in Udupi, Sorake said priority will be given for corruption free and transparent administration. “All the promises made in the election manifesto will be implemented effectively. The Udupi district, which tops the entire state when it comes to development, education and health care has a unique model for all other districts.”
There is acute shortage of drinking water in different parts of the State including Udupi district.
Arrangements will be made to supply water through tankers. Sufficient funds will be released from the government to tackle water crisis. Measures will be taken to rejuvenate sources of water. Permanent drinking water schemes will be implemented in the district.
He said that he has spoken to the Chief Minister on the announcement of reservation for the post of president and vice president in ULBs and the issue will be discussed on May 22.
