HPCL to give compensation for Perne victims

MANGALORE: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily on Sunday assured that the next of kin of victims of Perne LPG bullet tanker tragedy on April 9 will receive compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh each from HPCL. While kin of 11 victims who perished in the incident will receive Rs 1.5 lakh, the injured will receive Rs 50,000 each. HPCL has released a sum of Rs 17 lakh to handout compensation to the affected people.

Moily who took stock of the situation at a meeting with the deputy commissioner N Prakash here on Sunday said the state government has also announced a sum of Rs 48 lakh towards implementing a total rehabilitation package of the accident affected area. In all, 11 persons including the bullet tanker driver had lost their lives when the bullet tanker overturned while negotiating a curve along the National Highway, caught fire resulting in the deaths.
