Mangaluru, December 4: The BJP Mahila Morcha District Unit protested over the rising atrocities against women on December 4th near AB Shetty circle here.
The protest rally began at Taluk Pancahyat office and culminated at AB Shetty circle.
Former Puttur MLA, Mallika Prasad, addressed the protesters and damned the government for its failure to check the alarming rise in sexual crimes and atrocities against women and provide justice.
Sulochana G.K. Bhat, President of District Mahila Morcha, said the fast track courts promised by the government to handle rape cases have not yet began to function. She demanded the state government to initiate steps to provide rehabilitation and counselling facilities for rape victims.
Pratap Simha Nayak, the District BJP Chief also spoke during the protest and said the Home Minister KJ George must step down if they are not capable to check crime against women.
A human chain was also formed by the members of Mahila Morcha at AB Shetty Circle, which disrupted the traffic flow.
Workers of Mahila Morcha from Puttur, Kodagu and other districts too joined the protest in large numbers.
