Mangaluru, November 18: The National Library Week – a week long celebrations was inaugurated at the Central library here by the Principal of Mangaluru University College Dr Sathyanarayana Mallipatna, on Monday November 17th organised under the collaboration of the Public Library department and Mangaluru City Central Library.
Dr Sathyanarayana speaking on the occasion said, with the advancement in technology, we can read books through the Computer and Cell Phones. But it gives immense pleasure when we read the books clutching in our palms. The youth should not be driven away from the reading habit with the technical advancement in the form of books, he said.
Mayor Mahabala Maarla said, proper measures would be taken by the Mangaluru City Corporation to reform the libraries.
Prizes were distributed to the winners in various events. The Deputy Director Of Library Raghavendra K V compered the program. Librarian Gayathri welcomed. Kannada poetry recitals were conducted at the end.
Deputy Mayor Kavitha, Officer of City Central Library- Gayathri, corporator’s – Poornima, AC Vinayraj, K Mohammad, members of the city library authority K Vamana, Dr K Diwakara Shetty and others were present in this occasion.
