Mangaluru, November 17: The ‘Rachana awards 2014’ was conferred to five achievers in a function held at Milagres Jubilee hall on Sunday, November 16th.
John B Monteiro president of Rachana extended a floral welcome to the guests and explained about the importance of Rachana awards to the gathering.
MLC Ivan D’Souza was the guest of honour. Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Ivan D’souza and Ivan Fernandes UAE presented the Rachana awards-2014 to five following achievers.
- Rachana Woman of the Year – Dr Jeanette Pinto, Mumbai (Pro Life Social Activist)
- Rachana Agriculturist of the Year – Gabriel Stany Veigas, Ferar(Innovative Agriculturist)
- Rachana Entrepreneur of the year – Raphael Sequiera, Mumbai (CMD Reliable Group)
- Rachana Professional of the year – Dr Anil Kieth D’Cruz, Mumbai (Senior Oncology surgeon)
- Rachana NRI entrepreneur of the year – Ligoury D’Mello, Oman (Group Managing Director Technofit group)
Dr Jeanette Pinto on receiving the award said, “I am glad and honoured to receive the award. God’s grace has helped me to in my endeavours. We see violence everywhere; we have to create awareness and must stand up during the crisis. My motto is ‘Choose life, cherish life and celebrate life’ “.
Gabriel Stany Veigas addressed the gathering and said, “We need Oxygen to breathe, which only trees can release. We are uprooting trees and polluted the environment. We used to drink the stream water but now people carry purified water, time may come where children may be asked to carry Oxygen cylinders with them. We have to save the nature for the future generation and all have to grow more trees”.
Ligoury D’Mello, Oman said, “Parents are trying to accumulate funds for their children and thus spoiling their habit for hard work. If we die after accumulating wealth and have not contributed for the society, then our life and death would become disgraceful. I thank all the people who have helped me during various stages of my life”.
MLC Ivan D’Souza said, “All awardees deserve to receive national awards. Most of the entrepreneurs have moved abroad except a few are staying in the mother land. Rachana also has the motto of supporting and encouraging young entrepreneurs”.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, felicitated the jury with bouquet of flowers. The programme was compeered by Dr Rolvin D’Souza.
Secretary Anil Lobo, Stany Alvares convener, Treasurer Nelson Monteiro, joint secretary Raymond D’Cunha, Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and other governing body members, Dr Errol Pinto, Brain Fernandes, Louis J Pinto, Juliet Mascarenhas, Paul Moras, and Dr Norman Mendonca and others were present in the occasion.
