Mangaluru, November 12: A new project of drafting a Beary-Kannada-English dictionary was formally inaugurated by Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of district Kannada Sahitya Parishad.
Kalkura lauded the members of the Academy for coming up with the project during his speech and said, “The dictionary would preserve the language and facilitate to promote Beary culture”.
Kalkura expressed that, the present generation lack knowledge on regional and mother tongue. The generation is sadly attracted by the English and do not have idea of sanctity of their mother tongue.
The work on writing dictionary that would contain as many as 30,000 Beary words will be unveiled for the public use after a year. It will be released by of Beary Sahitya Academy.
B M Ichlumgodu, Editor of the dictionary expressed that it was a notable step taken by the academy. He has revealed that, currently, the words in the dictionary were set to 30,000 but with the efforts of many he can add 20,000 more.
