Disabled need to think positive, Says Capt.Karnik

Mangalore, May 13: After inaugurating the 21st annual celebration of Association of differently-abled of Dakshina Kannada at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan at university college Capt.Ganesh Karnik MLC differently-abled people should aim at positive results and though they are physically impaired they should be mentally strong to face any obstacles.

He further said that he is ready to extend his possible help to the differently-abled and Endosulfan victims.

However he cautioned that as the new government needs some time to get acquainted with the problems of people, it is not the right time to meet the chief minister but victims can hold a symbolic protest to seek the government’s attention, he said.

Zilla panchayat CEO, K N Vijayaprakash said the government has provided a special package to eight schools in the district from the funds earmarked in the annual budget for the welfare of differently-abled.

National awardee Anjanadevi and Prof.Nayak were felicitated.Scholarship, medical help among others were disbursed to the needy children.

B.Anjanadevi from Ujire who despite being disabled, has been rendering yeoman service for the cause of disabled in the Belthangady taluk for the past 20 years, was conferred the national award given by the department of Justice and Empowerment of the government of India.

 President Pranab Mukherjee presented her the award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and citation at a function held at the plenary Hall of the Vijnana Bhavan at New Delhi recently. She is one among the six outstanding achievers from south India to receive the award.

Union minister for justice and Empowerment Selja, Minister for state D Napoleon and secretary of the department of Handicapped Stuthi Kakar were present at the award giving function.

A list of demands addressed to both central and state government, including quick disposal of applications related to the differently-abled, health insurance, compensation to Endosulfan victims were handed over to the guests.

U T Khader, MLA.ZP President Koragappa Naik and Mangalore University registrar P S Yadapadittaya were present.
