Mangaluru, November 6: The prime accused in Gangadhar Pangal case Sathish Baikampady is taken into custody on Wednesday, November 6th on the charges of murder of Basavaraj. A case has been registered against Sathish alleging that Basavaraj was also murdered by colliding with a vehicle about one and a half year ago. The Suratkal cops have taken Sathish into custody and are investigating the case.
In an accident which occurred at Hosabettu on May 14th 2013, the bike rider Basavaraj (45) from Dharwad, who was a resident of Hosabettu, had expired. The Yelu Patna Mogaveera Samyuktha Sabha and Hosabettu Mogaveera Sangha had filed a complaint with the police stating that even this act was also done by Sathish Baikampady and his team.
On the above mentioned date, the president of Mogaveera association Gangadhar Hosabettu was the pillion rider who was travelling with Basavaraj who was riding his bike. It was said that, with the intention of eliminating Gangadhar Hosabettu , a vehicle was rammed into the bike near Hosabettu. Luckily Gangadhar Hosabettu escaped with injuries and recuperated after being treated in a hospital. But the bike rider Basavaraj had expired.
After this incident, Sathish Baikampady was accused of murdering congress leader Gangadhar Pangal by ramming over Bolero vehicle into a scooter by which he was travelling on May 14th, 2014. The accused had absconded for five months to escape from the imprisonment. Recently he was granted anticipatory bail from the High Court and hence Sathish and other accused had visited Panambur police station for probing on Tuesday, November 4th.
Meanwhile, outside the station numerous members from Yelu Patna Mogaveera Samyuktha Sabha and Hosabettu Mogaveera Sangha protested and alleged that Sathish Baikampady had also involved in the murder case of Basavaraj which had taken place earlier. The protestors tried to lay siege on the police station. A complaint was also filed by them. But the cops had closed the case then stating that it was a hit and run case and had sent a ‘C’ report to the court.
The Yelu Patna Mogaveera Samyuktha Sabha and Hosabettu Mogaveera Sangha stated that if the case was investigated properly in the past, Gangadhar Pangal would not have been murdered. They also ordered to file FIR against all the culprits who have accompanied Sathish Baikampady in this act.
If Basavaraj death is proved to be murder, then there is a chance that many others along with Sathish Baikampady will be put behind bars. Crime branch DCP Vishnuvardhan, ACP Ravikumar, station officer M.A. Nataraj and Panambur Sub-Inspector Lokesh are investigating the case.
It is gathered that this is the third such allegations on Sathish Baikampady. Also he is facing charges in a vehicle accident case at Udupi district during 2001.
