Minister Ramanath Rai launches women’s special care unit at Lady Groschen hospital.

Mangaluru, November 2: The women’s special care unit which provides all the facilities such as treatment, police and medical aid for assaulted women under the same roof, was inaugurated by district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai at Lady Groschen hospital on Saturday, November 1st.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the girls and women who are the victims of sexual assault can avail the special treatments here. In this special unit, one consultant, two legal advisers, three social workers, two doctors, four nurses and a female police officer from the local police station will be deployed here, revealed the minister Rai.

By dialling 181 free helpline, any kind of special treatment from the unit can be availed by the assault victims. The women will be treated by a physician, and examined as well. Basic information will be reported and legal protection will be provided. Psychological consultants appointed from the non-governmental organizations will conduct counselling. Consultation will be done by Legal Services Authority or the District Legal Services Authority.

Prajna short-term housing and self-support Centre which is funded by Department of Women and Child Development will provide boarding and secure accommodation.

Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, Minister Moideen Bava, deputy director of the Women and Child Welfare department Gertrude Vegas, Superintendent of Lady Goschen hospital, Dr Shakuntala,  Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.
