Goonda act imposed against notorious rowdy Ullal Choni.

Mangalore, October 31: The commissioner of Mangalore has enforced Goonda Act on notorious rowdy Keshava Poojary alias Choni (24), residing near Someshwar railway station.

Serious cases were registered against him at various police stations in the city, on the charges of murder, robbery, and assault using deadly weapons. He was also a rowdy sheeter at Ullal police station.

He was the main accused in the murder case of Sandeep Shetty which took place on November 13th, 2011 at Ullal which falls under the Ullal police station, and shootout case during 2013 on an entrepreneur at Mannagudde which comes under the Burke station jurisdiction. He was accused in threatening cases by developing links with underworld figures. In order to control his menace, the goonda act has been imposed on him.

Currently Choni is at Bellary prison and will be placed in a separate cell since goonda act is imposed on him.

Camera Men:

Keshav Poojary alias Choni was working as a camera man of local TV channel at Thokkotu. He was also a professional videographer as well. But he lost his job since he involved in untoward acts. After that, he appeared in criminal activities. Choni was accompanied by Sandeep, the latter was murdered by Choni and friends with a intension of growing into a don in Ullal.

In the wake of the goonda act he cannot apply for bail. Visitors are not permitted to meet him. In order to meet him, permission has to be sought from the prison superintendent DGP.

Goonda act cannot be questioned.  Keviat can be applied to the High Court to question the act. This is the third goonda act enforced in Dakshina Kannada district.

Prior to this, Goonda Act was implemented on Pradeep Mendon who was accused under 13 cases and Iliyas who was blackmailing people under the Ullal target group for ransom.
