Kundapur, October 14: The local fishermen in Gangolli have objected the cuttlefish fishing by the Tamilnadu based fishermen at Gangolli.

Few years ago there was a massive protest over the cuttlefish fishing by outsiders in Malpe. Post the protest, the cuttlefish fishing halted at Malpe. Now it has begun at Gangolli complained the local fishermen.

Now Tanilnadu based fishermen are carrying on this trade using the boats bearing the registration number of other states. In this region, fishing is banned for the other state boats even then fishing is carried out through the port region of Gangolli. The concerned department is not taking any action on them. Those who are carrying on the cuttlefish-fishing trade are purchasing a lot of ice which has led to the shortage of ice hence the fish traders are withdrawing to buy fishes. The traditional trade of this region has been hampered.

The fishermen complained that, in the past, a boat was coming to Gangolli and clear off all the cuttlefishes. But now the number of boats arriving from other states has hiked. The place here is insufficient to park local boats.

There is a strict order that cuttlefish fishing should not be carried out using the machetes. But it is impossible to catch cuttlefish fishes without using the machetes. Hence the fishermen demand that cuttlefish fishing must be completely banned at Gangolli.

If it is not banned, a massive protest will be held-warned the fishermen.
