Mangalore, October 13: ‘Vaividya-2014’ a district cultural competition was organised by the Lions Club International Dist 317D for inter-club members and their family, on Sunday October 12th at A B Shetty Hall, Mangalore.
The first lady of the district, Lioness Nandini Murthy MJF, inaugurated the cultural competition by lighting a lamp. During her inaugural speech, remembering famous poet Kuvempu, she sang one of his song and paid tribute to him.
MJF, district governor, Dist 317D H S Manjunatha Murthy addressed the audience and said, “The teams are performing very well and they have chosen this year’s theme ‘Touch one’s heart’. Let us all lead our country by strengthening ourselves. Music makes one happy and our life should be filled with music”.
Addressing the mass, Walter Nandalike said, “I have seen simplicity and humbleness of Lions members wherever I have attended the programmes in the past or even today. I had the opportunity to attend the programmes in Udupi, Karkala and Mangalore and I am amazed to see professionals like doctors, lawyers, businessmen, and others engaged in social service despite their commitments towards the family and profession. Today’s cultural events proved that there are various talents in the Lions members and their family. I am sure Lions club will grow further and celebrate 100th year of its inception in a couple of years in a grand manner”.
In this ceremony, Walter Nandalike and sponsor Sridhar Kamath were felicitated. Judges Dr Dhananjay Kumble, Manoj and Madhav Surathkal were honoured. Over 30 teams took part in this competition.
On the occasion M Kavitha S Shastri MJF, 1st VDG-Dist 317D and M Arun Shetty 2nd VDG-Dist 317D also delivered their valuable talks.
The guests were welcomed by Chandrahas Shetty MJF, district co-ordinator and floral welcome rendered to all the dignitaries present on the dais.
The vote of thanks was proposed by the convener Praveen Shetty.
During this occasion, M G Melanta MJF, Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, K M Sachidranath, Kishore D Shetty MJF, Meena Malani, Swaroopa N Shetty, Edward Pinto, Udaya Amin, Crowmel Jithan Salins, Rashmi Vinay, Sulatha K Shenoy, Nayana M Shetty, Sowmya Hegde, Ramya Harish, Ln Ashok Kumar, Ln Sathyanarayan M, Ln Naveen Shetty and others were also present.
