Mangalore, September 23: A youth met a tragical-end at Shibaroor in Suratkal here on Tuesday September 23rd, when he rescued his friend from drowning.
The victim has been identified as Sujith Alva (24), a resident of Kana. He worked as an electrician in Baikampady. The incident took place in Nandini river; while he saved his close friend Sujeeth from drowning post which he was pulled away by the water currents while taking bath.
It is gathered that, Sujith was also into shamiana business. It was practice to wash the shamiana and other materials in Nandini river near Shibaroor, and as usual, five youths who are into the same business went to the river to wash. Sujith Alva and his friend Sujeeth reached the venue by bike. The two friends got into the water to bathe while the co-workers washed the shamiana at the other bank of the river.
It is learnt that, Sujeeth got pulled in by the water currents while bathing and screamed for help. Sujith rushed to his rescue and managed to bring him to safety, but before he could get out of the water, he too got pulled in by the water.
His co-workers rushed to his rescue, but failed to save him. Locals and fire personnel arrived at the spot and late in the evening, the body was brought out.
Suratkal Cops have registered a case.
