Mangalore, September 15: MP Mr Nalin Kumar Kateel has stated that,” we will not allow the closure of Mangalore Chemical’s and Fertilizers (MCF) situated in Panambur. The coastal minister’s have already informed the union minister H.N. Ananth Kumar about it. We shall ask the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and prevent the closure of the company”.
The center has asked Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers to switch from naphtha to Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) as the primary fuel in urea production.MCF is facing the threat to be closed from September 30th.
2,000-odd employees of MCF are worried about their future due to the central Government notification directing all units using naphtha to switch over to LPG from September 30th.
Further he said, “The unit has been in operation in Mangalore for the last 38 years meeting the needs of many farmers. Stopping the production will hit farmers. However the MCF management has already spent Rs 302 crore to install machinery to switch from naphtha to LPG”.
