Passport Melas to be organised in the city.

Mangalore, September 13: Paying a visit to the passport office here on Friday September 11th, the regional passport officer, P S Karthigeyan has instructed the local officials to hike the daily intake of passport applications from the current number 305 to 330.

Mr Ivan D’Souza, met Karthigeyan during his visit and discussed on problems related to issue the passport.

Karthigeyan revealed that passport Melas are planned to be held in the city on September 20th and October 11th. He also told Ivan that he will take steps to provide all basic facilities to the passport applicants in the passport Seva Kendra here.

The visiting officer revealed that the people will be educated about the documents required to be produced along with passport application at these Melas.

Karthigeyan revealed that he had discussed with local officials to see that passport applications referred to police department for verification are returned within 20 days. He said that to streamline the procedure, discussions will also be held soon with the topmost officials of police department in the state.

He said that, ‘We will be urging the government to further improve the quality of paper used for passport printing. Steps will be taken to issue sanctioned passports within three days and to recruit additional staff to the passport Seva Kendra here, by discussing the matter with the union department of foreign affairs. About 60 percent of applications we receive do not need police verification report’.

Shakeem Begum, Chetan Urwa, Arun Crasta and other officials of Passport Office in the city were present.
