Bantwal, September 12: Even on Thursday, September 11th a fierce argument continued between Police and rickshaw drivers related to the eviction of unauthorized shops at BC Road.
As per the notice issued by the Town municipality, Crime bureau ASI had taken action against erring rickshaw drivers who had parked their vehicle in non-parking areas.
Rickshaw drivers raged a protest immediately after ASI took action and had arguments with ASI. ASI Chandrashekaraiah warned of strict action against those auto-drivers who disturb traffic by parking in non-parking zones.
Later the rickshaw drivers rushed to municipal office and urged Leena Britto of the town municipality to locate suitable place as there are more rickshaws.
The officer intimated them to wait till coming Monday and assured of errecting parking and non-parking flexes in the area. She also assured them of discussing this issue in the next municipal meeting and action will be taken soon.
On Tuesday September 9th, a drive was conducted by the Bantwal municipality and the police to vacate all unauthorized shops which were functioning below the B.C Road flyover. Rickshaw drivers opposed on shifting the rickshaw parking stand from its present location. The union had revealed that they will consent to this only if the municipality provides a substitute.
