Heavy showers in Pakistan:  44 people died, over 200 injured

Islamabad, April 27: Nearly 44 people were killed and over 200 were injured as rain and storm continued to lash Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, media reported.

A number of houses were collapsed and tress uprooted as wind and heavy downpour Noshehra, Akbarpura and other areas located in the outskirts of Peshawar,Thenews.com.pk reported on Monday.

Similar incidents were also reported from Charsadda road, Badho Sumar Bagh and Badhni areas.

Emergency has been declared in all the hospitals in the affected areas of the province. Rescue work is still underway. However, bad weather continued to hamper rescue operation.

Electricity service has also been disrupted in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rains with windstorm for the next 24 hours in Malakand, Hazara and Peshawar.

In order to help the victims, military has also been called out in the affected area.
