New Delhi: Narendra Modi government has a new agenda on the list – fast tracking the environmental clearances for the much-needed roads along the border with China and defence projects that are vital for the army. A new series of guidelines will be revealed in a month, they will be followed to fast track environmental reviews and sanctions.

Prakash Javadekar, the Environment Minister tweeted on Thursday morning, post his meeting with officials from the Defence Ministry, saying that, “”Delays in Defence projects were due to case-by-case decision-making process. We’ll make Policy laid decisions. Will put Policies in place.” The meeting was in relation to the help up projects due to environment related permissions.

The minister also indicated that faster clearances would be given for border roads and strategic defence projects that are to be built within 100 kms from the Line of Actual Control.

Resting the concerns of the Indian Army and Air Force about the slow pace of implementation of several crucial infrastructure projects in the country’s north east and Ladakh region, the minister planned to improve defences along the China border.

These plans were previously put on hold due to the slow moving bureaucracy in the Environment Ministry.
