Pistol on the table

Seeking revenge after his wife left him for another man six months ago, the 30-year-old man procured a pistol and two cartridges from UP

The Crime Branch officers arrested a 30-year-old man after they found a country-made pistol and two live cartridges in his possession on Wednesday.

With the city on the edge what with the upcoming elections, the Unit-X police officers had swung into action after receiving a tip-off, and had laid a trap to nab the accused. But, during his questioning after the arrest, they were stunned to find out that he procured the weapon to murder his wife and her paramour.

The jilted man, identified as Sanjay Chavan, told cops that he was on his way to kill the duo, as he was looking to seek retribution after his wife left him for another man six months ago.

According to the police, Chavan was infuriated with his wife’s infidelity, and had tried to convince his wife to stay back, but to no avail. After she left him, he located her and persuaded her to come back, but despite repeated attempts she paid no heed to him.

Angered with her snub, he decided to take revenge. Chavan got in touch with a watchman, who, using his contacts, managed to procure a pistol from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. Chavan had also specifically asked for only two rounds to kill the duo.

However, his sinister plans came to an end after police arrested him from Saki Vihar Road on Wednesday. Cops are now hunting for the watchman who provided the weapon to him. Meanwhile, Chavan was handed over to the Powai police and later produced in the Andheri court, where he was remanded in police custody till March 24.
