Manoj Sharma, a self-proclaimed anti-corruption crusader who hurled a shoe at the Commonwealth Games scam accused, Suresh Kalmadi, a few years ago, threw black ink on Sahara Group chairman Subrata Roy on the Supreme Court premises on Tuesday.
The incident took place minutes after Mr. Roy arrived for his scheduled appearance.
Sharma, 44, was beaten up by a group of lawyers. He was arrested later.
Soon after Mr. Roy reached the Supreme Court, he told journalists that he would meet them after coming out of the court. As he was being escorted in, Sharma who had positioned himself close by threw ink at him. The ink fell on the right side of Mr. Roy’s face, and the shirt and the waist coat.
His action left everyone stunned. Sharma sought to further dramatise the incident by removing his shirt. Simultaneously, he began screaming and accusing Mr. Roy of stealing money from the poor.
This led to a chaos as he was roughed up by some lawyers. He was then taken away by the police to the Tilak Marg station. He is said to have revealed that some years ago, he had got a fake death certificate made in the name of the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to prove the level of corruption in government departments.
Following the interrogation, Sharma was booked under Sections 107 and 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code and arrested.
