LUCKNOW: The drunk daughter of a former IPS officer went berserk on the streets of Agra injuring two cyclists and two motorcycle-borne riders with her speeding car on Wednesday night. She also a thrashed a home guard and misbehaved with cops when they intercepted her.
The sequence of events began at around 9pm when a Maruti Ritz zoomed past the Ram Nagar culvert in Shahganj area of Agra city, hitting a cyclist and his pregnant wife. As the injured couple raised alarm, the car sped off towards Shivaji Nagar knocking down two others riding motorcycles.
The car was stopped near Shivaji Nagar crossing by some locals and shopkeepers as the vehicle was being driven in a reckless manner. Soon, the victims who were hit by the car also arrived at the spot.
The woman driving the car, who was heavily drink, identified herself as the daughter of an IPS officer posted in Delhi and threatened the locals of action for obstructing her way. When the injured cyclist and his pregnant wife insisted on taking her to the police, the tipsy woman, clad in a black T-shirt and jeans, allegedly thrashed the pregnant woman.
A commotion ensued as locals detained the reckless driver. When two home guards and two police constables arrived at the spot, she reportedly got more agitated and thrashed a home guard. Dropping names of some top bureaucrats in Delhi, she threatened the cops of dire consequences if they detained her and her fiancee who was accompanying her.
It was only after ASP City Pawan Kumar arrived at spot with women police that the woman was admitted to a hospital. On Thursday morning, the woman identified herself and her family was contacted. In the absence of a written complaint from the injured persons, the police booked her and her friend for drunken driving and creating nuisance. They were subsequently released on bail as the medical report confirmed that the lady and her fiancee were heavily drunk.
When contacted, Shahganj police refused to provide details saying that it may lead to the identification of the victim which was not permitted by the court at this stage of the case. Sources, however, confirmed that the accused was the daughter of a retired IPS officer of Delhi cadre and had come to Agra for sightseeing along with her fiancee.
