Varanasi, May 30: In a rare incident of its kind a girl allegedly threw acid on a youth for refusing marriage proposal in Rasra area in Ballia district on Thursday night.
The girl was arrested on Friday, and the youth, who sustained serious acid burns, was referred to Varanasi for treatment.
According to reports, the youth Raj Kumar Pal, resident of Jamgaon village in Rasra police station area, was sleeping on the terrace when a girl from neighbourhood allegedly threw acid on his face. The girl was annoyed with his refusal to marry her.
Pal sustained serious burns on his face. He was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to Varanasi for treatment. On Friday Pal’s mother Kanta Devi lodged an FIR with Rasra police station against the girl. The police arrested the girl under section 326A.
The Rasra police station officer Sandeep Singh told TOI over phone that the girl wanted to marry Pal, but he was not ready for it. The matter was being investigated.
