PILIBHIT, March 17: A 14-year-old boy was hacked to death allegedly by his father, after his mother complained that school fees at the private inter-college where he was a student had not been paid for two months. The murder occurred in Biharipur, Bisalpur tehsil, Pilibhit, police said. The boy had reportedly told his mother that if he failed to pay school fees, he would be barred from taking examinations.

The victim, identified as Prince, was killed on Sunday night. Circle officer SS Sidhu said the boy sustained wounds inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon. His father, Dhruv Kumar, has been absconding since the murder.

A brother of the man absconding told TOI that Dhruv Kumar had been living with his parents-in-law and tilling land at Deoria, Biharipur, for years. His brothers had requested him to give up claims on his ancestral land at Angaula village, but he was not keen on giving it up. One local person said the man may have even committed murder in a bid to implicate his brothers.
