JAIPUR, February 10: A 20-year-old Japanese woman was raped late on Sunday on the side of a highway by a man who managed to trick her by posing as a tourist guide.
The man took her on a motorbike to the Jaipur-Ajmer highway and raped her near Mozamabad village, about 50km from here.
The police registered the rape complaint early on Monday. Senior officers including DC Jain, inspector general of police, Jaipur range, spoke to the vendors outside Jal Mahal, where the woman first met the accused. A six-member team of senior officers is monitoring the investigation.
The main witness is a sugarcane juice seller at Jal Mahal who reportedly saw a man befriending her on Sunday afternoon. Teams from various police stations in the city area were sent to Jal Mahal, where the statement of every vendor was recorded.
“While recording their statement, we came across the juice seller who claimed that he had seen a man befriending the Japanese woman,” a police officer said.
The police are also studying the records of all unlicensed guides. The records were sought from the local tourist police station situated near Hawa Mahal. “We have got concrete clues on the whereabouts of the accused and will certainly find him,” Jain said.
“In her complaint she said that since she was having problems conversing with local people, she found this man who was good in English and thought it will help her during her Jaipur stay,” Jain added.
Quoting the FIR, Jain said, “Late on Sunday evening, the man took her to an isolated place near Dudu and raped her at the corner of the road. Hearing her cry, a few villagers reached the spot while the accused managed to flee.”
The villagers took her to Dudu police station where the police registered a case of rape against an unidentified person. “She is unable to recall the name of the man who according to her could be 23-27 years old. We are trying to get more details about the man and will make a sketch,” Jain said.
