Nayagarh (Odisha): A homeguard alongwith an Assistant Sub Inspector and a constable, gave a brutal beating to a teenager selling vegetables on the roadside near Odagaon on Tuesday in full view of a crowd.
The vegetable vendor was involved in a quarrel with a customer, when a police PCR Gypsy came by. A homeguard came out of the vehicle, and started beating the teenager with a stick without any provocation.
Local residents tried to stop the policemen, after which sensing the anger of the crowd, the policemen slinked away.
More than a hundred residents later staged an impromptu dharna for nearly two hours demanding action against the erring policemen.
The local subdivisional police officer, Town police station incharge persuaded the crowd to lift the dharna. The teenager was later taken to the police station to register his complaint.
