Top Executive Shot in Hyderabad’s Upscale Banjara Hills, Shooter Left AK 47 Behin

There was panic in the posh Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad this morning when an unidentified man shot about three rounds in the car of K Nityananda Reddy, Director and Vice Chairman of leading pharma company, Aurobindo Pharma.

No one was injured.

The police, who are still trying to piece together what happened, said Mr Reddy, 56, had just finished his morning walk at the popular KBR Park and was about to get into his white Audi car at about 7 am, when a man rushed up, got into the rear seat of the car and began to fire.

Some reports say Mr Reddy was seen grappling with the alleged attacker inside the car when his brother Prasad Reddy walked up. The alleged assailant reportedly panicked and ran away towards a building nearby. He left behind an AK 47 gun and a bag, the police said.

An eyewitness said Nityananda Reddy returned fire at the man with a pistol.

The front and back windshields of Mr Reddy’s Audi are shattered; the police are yet to confirm whether the attacker fired from the AK 47 gun inside the car or had another gun.

There have been no arrests so far.

KBR Park is popular with morning walkers and there were many people there at the time of the incident

Aurobindo Pharma is India’s fourth biggest drugmaker by market value. Mr Nityananda Reddy is its whole-time director and vice chairman and has been associated with the company as a promoter. He supervises the overall affairs of the company.
