KOZHIKODE: The Nadapuram police will record the arrest of three senior students of Darul Huda English medium school, Parakadavu, for the alleged sexual assault on a LKG student. The authorities acted quickly to reinstate the original probe team following widespread protests from the people’s action committee and Opposition party leaders. A protest by them also thwarted the police efforts to arrest an innocent bus cleaner as the accused in the case.
The action committee members, DYFI activists and other party members held a protest in front of the police station and did not allow them to take Muneer, cleaner of the school bus, to the court to remand him. The police then changed their stand and released Muneer saying that the investigation had proved him innocent.
“The police had even forged a letter, said to be the statement of the victim child, with the name of the cleaner in it,” said K.K. Lathika, CPM Kuttiyadi MLA.
Mr Prajeesh Thotathil, Nadapuram DySP, who has been brought back to monitor the investigation, told DC that the arrests would be made soon.
