The police said Prabhakaran, (28), and Saranya, (23), were married for six months and were living in a house at Bethel Nagar, in Neelankarai.
On Sunday night, Prabhakaran reportedly strangled Saranya to death when she was sleeping. He immediately fled the home.
Coming to know about the incident, the family members living along with the couple, reported it to the local police. The body was recovered and moved to government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem.
Later, appearing before the Injambakkam village administrative officer, Prabhakaran confessed to murdering his wife and was handed over to the Neelankarai police.
In his confession, Prabhakaran said he carried out act as suspected the fidelity of his wife.
Neelankarai inspector M.S. Baskar said, “The statement was voluntary. Hence, he could not claim that he was being coerced into recording such a statement during the prosecution.
Only a month back, Prabhakaran’s brother, whom the suspect doubted his wife was having an affair with, had been thrown out of the house. Despite that, Prabhakaran resorted to murdering his wife,” he said.
