Man and first wife charged with horrific campaign of violence against second wife, 2 children

Abu Dhabi: A man and his first wife are in custody in connection with the murder, torture and imprisonment of his second wife, Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution revealed on Sunday. The victim’s two children were also tortured.

The arrests were made after authorities received a complaint about a woman and her children being held against their will in a house in Bani Yas, Abu Dhabi. The caller said the victim was being tortured and starved.
The male suspect told police that he became enraged and beat his second wife to death after he came home to an untidy bedroom.

The Public Prosecution made inquiries with Abu Dhabi Police. However, it was revealed that the victim had died the same day.

The victim was his second wife whom he had married six years ago in an Arab country. They had two children. The man confessed to beating the woman regularly because she did not do as told and did not look after him properly.
The male suspect told police that he had to keep her locked in the house as she was suffering from a psychological disorder.

An autopsy showed that the second wife was severely malnourished and had been repeatedly assaulted.

The victim’s two children also showed signs of abuse.

The first wife told authorities that she used to torture the victim’s children. According to court records, one of the children suffered 40 per cent deformities.
She also admitted to burning the children.

Beatings
An autopsy revealed the victim had been repeatedly beaten, had suffered burns, broken ribs, had bruises to her neck and shoulder and was severely malnourished.
A report showed the children also showed signs of abuse and the injuries they sustained were intentionally inflicted.

Although witnesses confirmed the couple regularly beat and tortured the victims, they denied claims the victim had suffered mental illness.
Justice officials will seek to give the suspects a maximum punishment of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
